Viewing footnotes and missing values (Charts)
Footnotes and missing values (cell-level metadata) provide additional information about a cell's data.
Note: Data is defined as "missing" if it is absent for some defined reason, such as being unavailable or confidential. The text of a missing value usually explains why the data is missing.
To display the text of footnotes and missing values, hover over a datapoint that contains a footnote or missing value. The footnote or missing value text appears in a popup.
- If View data labels is selected, footnote and missing value indicators appear as part of the data labels in enlarged chart views.
Footnote indicators appear inside brackets. For example: "(2,§)".
Missing value indicators can appear alone or in combination with footnote indicators. They do not appear inside brackets. For example: "- - -".
- If View data labels is not selected, footnote and missing value indicators will not be present, although you can still display the text of the footnote or missing value by hovering over the datapoint. A note at the bottom of the chart view explains that metadata is present and that you should refer to the table view for more information. (Footnotes and missing values always appear in table views.)
- If you have selected View data labels and then you choose View printable version, a footnote or missing value dictionary table will be included at the bottom of the printable chart view. The dictionary table lists each footnote and missing value indicator along with its full text.
