- A weight field is a numeric field that specifies weighting factors to be used for each variable. Weighting means applying a percentage factor to data values. Weighting is used to adjust data to reflect a known population profile. For example, if one identifiable population group (such as females) is known to be under-represented in a sample, a weighting factor could be applied to the data for females to extrapolate to the known proportion of females to males in the population.
